Product Overview

"SOMEHOW MY BELIEF WAS STRONGER THAN MY BODY."

THESE WERE THE WORDS SPOKEN BY DOMINIC THIEM after his Victory in the final of the US Open on 13 September 2020. He beat the German Alexander Zverev in five sets at Flushing Meadows in New York City. The title was the highpoint of his professional career, which lasted from 2012 until 2024. Born in Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria in 1993, Thiem first entered the ATP world rankings as number 946 in 2010, thereafter continuously fighting his way up the ranks, with his win at the US Open catapulting him to number 3. In the same year, Dominic Thiem was crowned sportsperson of the year in Austria, and one year later, his portrait and signature were immortalised on a very special miniature sheet.

The material made production of the stamps a real challenge

THE ROUND MINIATURE SHEET is made from the very same
yellow felt as is used to make tennis balls. A lot of manual labour
and technical expertise went into making this original stamp. The
material had to be cut by hand into the appropriate sheet shape,
while the printing was achieved using silk-screen printing onto a
thermal sublimation foil which was then applied to the felt. Finally,
the sheet was cut into the final shape using a digital cutter.
